2008-07-15 [Lepellier]: Very good, Kai. I'll sett up a few things.
2008-07-15 [Kai Crewger]: so... I'm thinking either shaman or acolyte. acolytes are the main healers, from what I've gathered, but shamans seem the more versatile.
2008-07-15 [Lepellier]: Well, generally, class goes above Allegiance, but this will work. So, you have any questions for me to start out with?
2008-07-15 [Kai Crewger]: *points to above comment*
2008-07-15 [Lepellier]: gotcha. Yeah, Acolytes are specialized in being a healer, but shamans can also be by far more versatile, becoming a combatant healer, or even a mage/healer hybrid. Shamans do get the bonus of having glyphs that they can use, but Acolytes have the ability to become a Priest at lvl 10 (or 20, I don't remember, but I think it's 10), which allows them to become a little better in terms of healing.
2008-07-15 [Kai Crewger]: hmm... I was thinking maybe doing a Shaman and multiclassing Acolyte, that way I could work on healing and still have battle skills, and also maybe work on becoming a channeler
2008-07-15 [Lepellier]: That may be a good idea as well. If you wanted to start out multiclassed, we could do that as well. It will limit what your starting skills are a bit, but if i'm doing my mental math right, you'll still have 4 skill points to spend after getting the skills needed to multiclass Shaman/Acolyte
2008-07-15 [Kai Crewger]: yeah... also, how do we go about the assigning of stats (STR, CON, etc.)?
2008-07-15 [Lepellier]: Well, being a Xiadomian, she starts out with 6 Dex, and 4 Str, as they are a quick, but frail race. You get to add 1 to any stat you want twice, because humans are versatile, and can adapt any stat they want, and, since I'm guessing you're going to be a lvl 3 shaman/lvl 2 Acolyte if you multiclass, you get +1 Mag or Cha, for achieving lvl 3 Shaman.
2008-07-15 [Kai Crewger]: so the additions you mentioned come because of the leveling up, or is that just basic starting for level 5?
2008-07-15 [Lepellier]: Those all come from levelling up. Humans get +1 to any stat every even level. Shamans get +1 mag or cha every 3 levels (Of shaman) and Acolytes get +1 Int or Cha per 3 levels of Acolyte.
2008-07-15 [Kai Crewger]: alright. what about the rest of the stats, and HP and MP? (I could probably look it up, but it's quicker to ask)
2008-07-15 [Lepellier]: Hah, that's fine. You can change any stat with the points you get from being a human (Dex, Con, Str, int, Mag, or Cha) any of those can be changed, but as a Shaman, you can only change those 2 particular stats. As a mage class, you gain 1/2 mag to MP every even level and 1/2 Con to HP every odd level.
2008-07-15 [Kai Crewger]: no, what are the starting numbers? like, 5 to CON, 3 to INT, stuff like that.
2008-07-15 [Lepellier]: Oh, sorry. Everything is base 5 at level 1. Your race determines what your starting stats are for certain stats, like a Xiadomian Human gets +1 Dex/-1 Con at start.
2008-07-15 [Kai Crewger]: so, it'd be like Str-5, Con-4, Int-5, Mag-5, Dex-6 and Cha-5 without the leveling additions? ok. And how do you figure HP and MP?
2008-07-15 [Lepellier]: yes. HP and MP at lvl 1 are determined by 2x your Con stat for HP and 2x your Mag stat for MP.
2008-07-15 [Kai Crewger]: and do you change those any time you change either Con or Mag then?
2008-07-15 [Kai Crewger]: oh, bleh, nevermind. now explain how the skills work, and what the difference is between skills and special skills. also what CC is
2008-07-15 [Lepellier]: Skills are certain talents your character learns either through special training (Usually not in RoL, only in RoLA, which you should join :) .), or expending Skill Points (SP). Each tier (Listed in the skills wiki, found on the main page) costs a certain amount of SP, 1 for tier 3, 2 for tier 2 and 3 for tier 1 skills. Special skills are certain skills known by certain classes, like a Shaman can turn any spell she knows into a glyph every 5 levels, at the cost of XP, or a lvl 5 acolyte can advance any white spell by 1 grade (Duration, damage, amount healed, etc) for an XP cost. CC is your characters carrying capacity. cc is calculated as (((Str+Con)/2)*6)
2008-07-15 [Kai Crewger]: buwahh... okay. I'll try to work with you on skills tomorrow, right now I'm a little tired. If you want, you can work on an equipment set for her, I'll try and get description and maybe the rest of the info done at least.
2008-07-15 [Lepellier]: well, if you can get her description, Personality, and History done, I can get her entirely set-up by the time you get back from your missions.
2008-07-15 [Kai Crewger]: alright. I'll try to do that this week. *thumbs up* it should be easy, once I sleep a bit.
2008-07-15 [Lepellier]: I goofed... they start with 4 Con, not 4 Str, but I think i can get this to work out right still.
2008-07-15 [Kai Crewger]: it's cool. I already assigned the level up stats, and all. working on appearance, and I've got a pic in the making.
2008-07-15 [Lepellier]: Te only thing she loses from this is 2 HP, but she gains an extra MP, so she has 13 HP and 16 MP.
2008-07-15 [Lepellier]: This is why it's good to have 2 artists in the Party. Julie is also drawing up a picture atleast for her character. I thinkm you may want to take a look at my character's page, get a good grip on more of what I look for in a character description. Not that your's is wrong, or bad or anything, but I'm just a bit more picky on details about a character, but it's up to you. If you want to leave it the way it is, I will deal and not complain. But here's my chracter anyway...Akira
2008-07-15 [Kai Crewger]: ah, yeah. I'm going to try and flesh it out, but I'm working with the basics of what I got from the page for now.
2008-07-15 [Lepellier]: Oh, that's fine. I didn't know what you were up to. If you got the basics from the page, then i'm definatly not going to complain. The page was done by somebody who knows better than i do.
2008-07-15 [Lepellier]: Well, I just realized. She has a CC of 33. You probably rounded out the decimals.
2008-07-15 [Kai Crewger]: oh, yeah. :P will change.
2008-07-15 [Lepellier]: hah, not a problem. I'm just looking over details.
2008-07-15 [Kai Crewger]: hm. what would the deciding factors for element be, and what do the colors mean? does that just pertain to your magic use?
2008-07-15 [Lepellier]: Well, I kinda decide on the element. It depends largely on race, but I make acceptions for class, like she will probably be a White element, prohibiting her from ever learning Black magic. Generally, it's based off personality, history and the like as well. The colors pertain to a type of magic. If you are one element, you cannot learn magic of the opposing element, much like learning any level of one color of magic prohibits you from learning the opposing color.
2008-07-15 [Kai Crewger]: alright. white works for me, then.
2008-07-15 [Lepellier]: Very good choice in weapons by the way. Can you unpassword the page for me, or send me the password in a message?
2008-07-15 [Kai Crewger]: what do the other colors mean then?
2008-07-15 [Lepellier]: Red is fire, and is opposed by blue (Water). Yellow is wind and is opposed by Green (Earth). Adepts (A newer class to RoL) Is generally non-elemental, and can pick and choose their magics, though the cannot learn opposing magics still. Astral magic is the non-elemental magic of the Adepts, or whomever wants to learn it, really.
2008-07-15 [Kai Crewger]: are the applications of the magics strictly dealing with battle then, or can you use them for other things like wind for listening, water for some applications of healing, etc.?
2008-07-15 [Lepellier]: Well, there are certain non-combatant spells, like Blue magic has create water, White magic has concencrate to make an area holy, etc. Not sure if you've looked up Lemirian Magic to see what spells you get to choose from (Right now, you have 1 Lvl. 1 White magic spell to choose, but I'll make sure you have more), but there are quite a few non-combat spells in the white magic repitoire.
2008-07-15 [Kai Crewger]: ah. doy. :P *goes to look*
2008-07-15 [Kai Crewger]: so I still get Heal as a first level acolyte skill, right?
2008-07-15 [Lepellier]: Healing? Yes, as a skill, and you can pick Heal 1 as your 1st level spell for right now. You should have 3-4 first level spells and 1-3 second level spells when I'm done helping you out with equipment and skills.
2008-07-15 [Kai Crewger]: ok, cool. I'll just go look through the stuff then.
2008-07-15 [Lepellier]: kk
2008-07-17 [Kai Crewger]: also thinking of taking up (if I can manage it) yellow and blue magic
2008-07-17 [Lepellier]: We can do that, if you want to just have a smattering of spells from each color...We're at a low level, so you won't have many spells of any one color. As for now, I'd personally take White magic, and maybe another one of the color magics, probably yellow since this is Xiadom, but blue may be better, as we have a yellow mage in the party already, and get lvl 2 white magic (That will also give you another lvl 1 white spell, and with the way want to help you equip her, give her a solid white magic base) But if you want to, we can give her all 3 colors to start with, i don't think it'd be too hard to start with. As a matter of fact, we can change up her items a bit, so she gets bonuses for each spell type, but she'd have, at most, 2 spells from each type if you chose all 3 spell types. Another thing you may want to consider is starting out with just lvl 1 and lvl 2 white magic, but picking up two-handed combat, so you can use your weapons attack power effectivly.
2008-07-17 [Kai Crewger]: hm. probably the last option. we can probably figure out a way to work the other two in later.
2008-07-17 [Lepellier]: Yeah, it won't be hard. Humans earn SP quite efficiently, so you'll be pumping out new skills like no other.
2008-07-26 [Lepellier]: Hey Kai, you about ready to do spells and such?
2008-07-27 [Kai Crewger]: yeah, sure.
2008-07-27 [Lepellier]: kk
2008-07-30 [Lepellier]: Ok, let's get this rolling.
2008-07-30 [Kai Crewger]: gimme what I have to choose from (which color, and how many of which level) and we can go from there.
2008-07-30 [Lepellier]: Well, let's choose equipment first. That way I can see if you get bonus spells because of your items.
2008-07-30 [Kai Crewger]: ok. how does this work then.
2008-07-30 [Lepellier]: Ok, you have 1000 gold pieces to choose from the equipment in the Item Index. In there, there are certin items (Like the Turban and White Robe in the 'Armor' section) that give a bonus spell to lvl 1 or 2 white magic, which is the only type of actual magic that you know. Then, you'll want to buy your weapons as well. You know how to handle both staffs and claws, so either of those are valid types of choices. (Claws is an entire section of weapons, the staff is just a single weapon choice in the maces section). Oh, and don't forget some accesories. Anything that gives bonuses to Cha, mag or Int will be really useful to you, and Dex and Str or Atk will be of secondary importance.
2008-07-30 [Kai Crewger]: would you recommend any relics, or would those even be available at this point in the game?
2008-07-30 [Lepellier]: The relics are out of the question, or atleast that list. After you buy your equipment, it can be upgraded, but probably none of it to Relic status.
2008-07-30 [Kai Crewger]: ok. any recommendation
2008-07-30 [Lepellier]: Yeah, basic clothing is automatic, no need to spend on it. Msc. items are like potions and things. It may be useful to you to pick up some Health and Mana potions, so you can save up on mana later in the game.
2008-07-30 [Kai Crewger]: would it be awkward to have a cloak and a bamboo hat? (thinking like a girl for a bit)
2008-07-30 [Lepellier]: I don't think so. One of my characters is known for his cloak and bamboo hat.
2008-07-30 [Kai Crewger]: ok. if I wanted to have a small knife, for utility and maybe offense, would I just take that as a dagger weapon?
2008-07-30 [Lepellier]: yeah, basically. If you use it for defense, as an actual weapon, you would get just a d20 roll, because you are not proficient with the dagger, but a dagger only has a 1 atk bonus anyway...or...
2008-07-30 [Kai Crewger]: do I need to get materials for making glyphs?
2008-07-30 [Lepellier]: Oh, yeah...Parchme
2008-07-30 [Kai Crewger]: would I need two weapon fighting to use two claws? probably yes... but then, are two claws included in the price, or would I have to buy two?
2008-07-30 [Lepellier]: yes, and you'd have to buy 2.
2008-07-30 [Kai Crewger]: bleh.
2008-07-30 [Kai Crewger]: alright, 150 for glyphs, so I choose a certain level white magic spell? and they're a single use only, right?
2008-07-30 [Lepellier]: Oh, no, no. I mean so you can learn one of the actual glyph writing skills, like glyph of pain, glyph of life, etc. Those are found in Lenirian Skills under tier 1 skills. I completely forgot that you needed the actual skill to write glyphs, but once you learn to write one, you can write that glyph as long as you have parchment, ink, and mana.
2008-07-30 [Kai Crewger]: ok. is it 150 per skill then?
2008-07-30 [Lepellier]: yup. I'm kinda making that rule, but if I remember correctly, that's the equivilent for the Arena.
2008-07-30 [Kai Crewger]: alright, Life for sure then...
2008-07-30 [Lepellier]: alright, you can just send me a list if you pick more than one and i'll add them in.
2008-07-30 [Kai Crewger]: and is it you can use an ink vial once and then it's gone, or is it a limit to how much you can write?
2008-07-30 [Lepellier]: How much do vials of Ink cost? I've forgotten. I want to say they have like charges...
2008-07-30 [Kai Crewger]: 15
2008-07-30 [Lepellier]: ok, so I'd say it has 5 charges/bottle
2008-07-30 [Kai Crewger]: should I get a sewing kit, or would that be necessary at this point in the game?
2008-07-30 [Lepellier]: that's probably not going to be neccesary.
2008-07-30 [Kai Crewger]: XD alright. almost done.
2008-07-30 [Lepellier]: sweet
2008-07-30 [Kai Crewger]: if I get a white opal, what should I graft it to?
2008-07-30 [Lepellier]: I'd imagine one of your claws...or buy 2 and graft one to each claw.
2008-07-30 [Kai Crewger]: mbleh. I think I went down to only one claw. I could probably get the other, hold on.
2008-07-30 [Lepellier]: Well, do you plan on using two-weapon fighting?
2008-07-30 [Kai Crewger]: alright. a white cloak, 2 wrist blade, bedroll sack, waterskin, bamboo hat, dagger, white robes, 10 parchment, 2 ink vials, 1 healing potion, 2 magic potion, Glyph of Life, First Aid Kit, 1 white opal (graft to 1 wrist blade). all in all this leaves me with 10 gp and 2 CC.
2008-07-30 [Lepellier]: wow, ok, so now...4 Lvl.1 white magic spells and a lvl 2 white magic spell.
2008-07-30 [Kai Crewger]: alright. I go to look.
2008-07-30 [Kai Crewger]: Heal 1, Magic Circle against Evil, Antidote, Uncorrupt, and Mass Heal 1
anything to change on equip or magic?
2008-07-30 [Lepellier]: Nope, looks good...i'll have to stat it out late though...too lazy right now.
2008-07-30 [Kai Crewger]: ok
2008-07-30 [Lepellier]: yup, good job.
2008-07-30 [Kai Crewger]: anything else, besides fleshing out the bio?
2008-07-30 [Lepellier]: Looks good. Yeah, as i said earlier, just get some detail in that bio. You can read up on everyone else's if you want some help or ideas. Other than that, I think you're ready to go. 5 down, 1 to go.
2008-07-30 [Kai Crewger]: hokay, cool.
2008-07-30 [Lepellier]: Oh, by the way, I don't imagine you'll need the bedroll or waterskin, unless you want them for rp'ing purposes...I mean, your character is a main figure in a village, so she may want some specail accomadations while adventuring.
2008-07-30 [Kai Crewger]: mm... well, if we're going to be doing the roaming-advent
2008-07-31 [Lepellier]: Eh, I'm kinda impartial to actual needs...XD
2008-07-31 [Kai Crewger]: XD
2008-07-31 [Lepellier]: ^_^
2008-08-08 [Kai Crewger]: howzat?
2008-08-08 [Gastogh]: Your dagger: Dagger (1 Atk, 2 Def, 3 Rng, 1 Wt)
Items Index dagger: 1 Atk / 1 Def / 2 Rng, 1 Wt
If you've improved the stats of an item like that (and paid the added price, I'll assume), then you'll need to mark it into the item. This is because there's a limit on how much an item's stats can be raised. Your dagger, having +1 to Def and +1 to range, should be entered into your inventory thus, for example:
Dagger+2 (1 Atk, 2 Def, 3 Rng, 1 Wt)
Also, you'll want to include the weights (if any) of all the items your character carries.
And lastly, I backtracked your item costs and they only add up to 885 (assuming inserting the gem into the weapon was free except for the gem itself), so you should have 115 gold left.
2008-08-09 [Lepellier]: I don't think we added in the bonus for any item, so maybe you want to buy another gem...or maybe we did upgrade that dagger too...idk.
2008-08-09 [Kai Crewger]: whoops. no, I must've just mixed some stuff up.
2008-08-09 [Lepellier]: Hmmm...lemme look up exactly how much you have spent...
2008-08-10 [Gastogh]: A rundown:
90+30 gold--- Wrist Blade (With White opal) (3 Atk, 2 Def, 1 Dex, +1 White Magic damage, 3 Wt)
90 gold--- Wrist Blade (3 Atk, 2 Def, 1 Dex, 3 Wt)
5+15+30 gold--- Dagger+2 (1 Atk, 2 Def, 3 Rng, 1 Wt)
30 gold--- White Robes (2 Mag, Bonus to Lvl. 1 White Magic, 5 Wt)
75 gold--- White Cloak (2 Cha, 1 Mag, Bonus to Lvl. 1 White Magic, 3 Wt)
250 gold--- Bamboo Hat (3 Dex, 1 Cha, 2 Wt)
10 gold--- Water Skin
20 gold--- Bedroll Sack
1*10 gold--- Parchment (x10)
15*2 gold--- Vial of Ink (x2)
60 gold--- Healing Potion
60*2 gold--- Magic Potion (x2)
20 gold--- First Aid Kit (Increases effectiveness of Heal skill)
Adds up to 885.
2008-08-10 [Lepellier]: Yes. I added it up myself...not But i think I had her buy a skill...
2008-08-11 [Kai Crewger]: I bought the glyph of life, remember?
2008-08-11 [Lepellier]: yup, that's right...
2008-08-11 [Lepellier]: Hmmm...small problem...I added it up WITH the cost of buying the skill (150 g) and it came out to 1035...35 gp over the starting gold...
2008-08-11 [Kai Crewger]: hmmm... odd. well, I'm gonna trust your math, so you could just take out one of the magic potions and gimme 25 gp instead,
2008-08-12 [Lepellier]: well...I did the 885 math earlier...and 885+150=1035. But you could always do the party photo and not worry about it, lol.
2008-08-12 [Kai Crewger]: I could. I'll try and get around to it, then.
2008-08-12 [Lepellier]: hey, don't worry...i make take multiple artists perspective.
2008-08-19 [Kai Crewger]: no, wait. not overspent, cuz you calculated for an upgraded dagger when it's not upgraded (yet)
2008-08-19 [Lepellier]: ... No, I went straight through the equipment list...
2008-08-19 [Kai Crewger]: no, no, I didn't need an upgraded dagger, that was a mistake. It's just a normal dagger (I changed it back)
2008-08-19 [Lepellier]: when was this?
2008-08-19 [Kai Crewger]: um, a while ago. when you first pointed it out, I think.
2008-08-19 [Lepellier]: well...most recently, I redid the count...I'm pretty sure you are over spent, but idk...
2008-08-19 [Gastogh]: If the dagger is ordinary instead of +2, the total costs of your items amount to 840. So you'd have 160 gold left, minus the cost of your Glyph, however much that was.
2008-08-19 [Kai Crewger]: that was 150, therefore 10 GP leftover, which is what's up there. problem solved.
2008-08-19 [Lepellier]: hmmm....alrigh
2008-08-19 [Lepellier]: By the way guys...let me do any page editing, please?
2008-08-19 [Kai Crewger]: um, I'd still like to reserve the right to do edits on my own character...
2008-08-19 [Lepellier]: Well...I guess that can slip...I just like making sure I'm on top of any changes done to character pages, so yeah...
2008-08-20 [Kai Crewger]: there's a 'view differences' button. whenever you receive notice that a page has changed, just use that. or ask, and I'll tell you, for eri.
2008-08-20 [Lepellier]: I figured. I just like making sure I have things under control, but i can trust ya. :)
